LOCAL SIGHTSEEING IN LACHEN NORTH SIKKIM-

1. Gurudongmar Lake

Situated at an altitude of about 17,800 feet, Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest and most sacred lakes in the world. It’s around 67 km from Lachen and offers a breathtaking view of the crystal-clear blue waters surrounded by snow-covered peaks. The lake is sacred to Buddhists, Sikhs, and Hindus.

2. Chopta Valley

Located near Lachen, Chopta Valley is known for its alpine meadows, snow-covered peaks, and beautiful river streams. It’s ideal for trekking, photography, and nature lovers. The valley is especially scenic during spring, with blooming flowers and lush greenery.

3. Thangu Valley

About 30 km from Lachen, Thangu Valley is a serene spot located at an altitude of 13,000 feet. The valley is dotted with small villages and offers panoramic views of the snow-clad mountains. It’s also a popular stop for acclimatization before heading to higher altitudes like Gurudongmar Lake.

4. Lachen Monastery

Also known as Ngodub Choling Monastery, Lachen Monastery is a spiritual and cultural hub in the village. It offers peaceful surroundings and a chance to explore the Buddhist way of life. The monastery is often the site of colorful religious festivals.

5. Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary

Located near Lachen, this sanctuary is home to over 40 species of rhododendron. It’s especially beautiful during the flowering season (April to May), when the entire region is adorned with vibrant hues of red, pink, and purple flowers. It’s also a good spot for bird watching.

6. Green Lake Trek

If you’re into trekking, the Green Lake Trek starts from Lachen and takes you through dense forests, alpine meadows, and glacial valleys. The trek offers views of Mount Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks. The Green Lake itself is a glacial lake, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the world.

7. Tso Lhamu Lake

Located at a very high altitude, this remote and pristine lake is around 40 km from Lachen, near the Tibet border. It is one of the sources of the Teesta River and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

8. Lachen Valley

Lachen Valley itself is a peaceful and scenic destination, surrounded by mountains and rivers. The valley is ideal for exploring local culture, taking nature walks, and enjoying the tranquil beauty of the Himalayas.
