Barsey

Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary or is a small sanctuary in West Sikkim. Khanchendzonga Biosphere Reserve is at the North of the sanctuary and Singalila National Park is at South. For being amidst in between a biosphere reserve and a national park, Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary is rich with bio diversity. But the main attraction of this place is Rhododendron flower. These flowers bloom in the month of March, April and May. That is why most of the tourists visit this place at this time. But throughout the year Varsey is beautiful with its natural mesmerizing grace.

How to Reach Barsey or Varsey

Nearest Airport : Bagdogra airport (IXB). It is about 121 kilomeres by road from Bagdogra to Varsey.

From Bagdogra take Sevoke road. From Melli, take the road to Jorethang. Then reach Hilley via Nabazar, Soreng, Karthok. Hilley is the last motorable point near Varsey. After reaching there, you have to trek another 4 kilometers through pine forest to reach Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Nearest Railway Station : New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). It is about 116 kilometers by road from NJP to Varsey or Barsey.

From NJP take Sevoke road. From Melli, take the road to Jorethang. Then reach Hilley via Nabazar, Soreng, Karthok. Hilley is the last motorable point near Varsey. After reaching there, you have to trek another 4 kilometers through pine forest to reach Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Sightseeing Barsey

1) Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary : This Sanctuary is the main attraction of Varsey. The sanctuary is expanded about 104 square kilometer.

2) Singalila National Park : Singalila National Park is a One of the highest National Parks in India. Previously it was declared as ‘wildlife sanctuary, in 1986, but later it was made an ‘Indian National Park’.

3) Hilley : Hilley is a small village near Varsey. Actually anyone have to go through Hilley to reach Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. Hilley is the last motorable place near Varsey.
