Murguma dam is a lesser known tourist spot located near Begunkodar railway station in Purulia district of Indian state West Bengal. Being not so much popular, the essence of the virgin nature could be felt here. The serenity of the place can take anyone out to the world of the peace. The dam as well as lake is surrounded by eye soothing greenery. This is an unforgettable place for true nature lovers.
By Train : Begun Kodar station (17kms) is the nearest railway station to Ayodhya Hills. You can hire a local private cab to reach Murguma or you can ask hotel or resort to pick you up from station and it should be pre booked.
Few trains are available there from Howrah Junction (in Kolkata) to Begun Kodar station, as example – Howrah Muri Shatabdi Express, Howrah Ranchi Intercity Express, SRC AII Express etc.
By Bus : Very Few buses are available from Kolkata to Purulia
By Car : If you are coming from Kolkata, you can reach Murguma via Dankuni, Arambag, Bishnupur, Purulia and Begun Kodar.
1) Murguma Lake : Murguma lake is situated just beside the Murguma dam. This lake is as beautiful as the dam.
2) Bamni Falls : Bamni Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Purulia district. The best time to visit Bamni falls is the monsoon.
3) Marble Lake : Marble lake has a completely different place from the characteristic of entire Purulia. The discovery of this hidden gem definitely has boosted up the number o travellers towards Purulia. The best time to visit Marble lake is Autumn (Puja vacation for Bengalis), Winter and definitely the Monsoon. But one should be very careful while visiting in monsoon since flash floods (Harka Baan) are quite common at this time.
4) Charida Mask Village : Charida Mask village, a small village in Baghmundi block in Purulia district, is well known for the making of the Chhau Mask. Chhau dance is an ancient ethos and festival of the Purulia district. Chhau dance or Chhou dance is basically a type of traditional folk dance of Eastern India. The stories are played in these dance are taken from the Hindu epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Purana etc. The masks are used in this dance performance are made in this Charida Village or Charida Mask village.
5) Khairabera Dam : Khairabera Dam is a marvellous lake located near Baghmundi hills of Baghmundi block in Purulia district in Indian state West Bengal. The major attractions of this place are serenity, streams, falls and the thick vegetation.
6) Mayur Pahar : Mayur Pahar or Peacock hill is the extended part of the beloved Ajodhya hill. Eye soothing greenery and serenity are the major attractions of this hill. This place is the paradise for the nature lovers and trekkers since it offers enough adrenaline rush to them.
7) Ajodhya Hills : Ajodhya hill range, one of the most famous hill range in Purulia as well as West Bengal, is on the Eastern fringe of the Chhotanagpur Plateau and is the extended part of the Eastern Ghat. This hill range is one of the most well known places near Murguma lake.
Being located in remote and lesser known area, very few accommodations are there available near Murguma lake. Some adventure camps are there near Murguma. Big hotels and resorts are not available there to stay.
