What to see Mirik / Best Places to visit in Mirik?

1    1. SUMENDU LAKE (MIRIK LAKE):

The main attraction of Mirik is the calm and serene Sumendu Lake which is encircled by a walking path, pine trees and a lovely garden. Sumendu Lake, also known as the Mirik Lake, is an artificial lake developed by the Government of West Bengal during the seventies. You can travel in a boat on the lake or take a walk over the Indreni Pull or the ‘Rainbow Bridge, ‘which is built across two ends of the lake. A bridge made of arcs is constructed over the lake; if you stand on it, you can see the peak of Kanchenjunga.

2. BOKAR MONASTERY

The Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery which is located on top of a hill gives marvelous views of the Mirik Valley. This monastery is quite a tranquil or peaceful place where you can sit in meditation or just relax in the quiet. This is the best place to fully embrace Tibetan culture and the spirituality.

3. ORANGE ORCHARDS

Mirik is famous for Orange Orchards, especially there is a village called ‘Rameetay Dara’ which is quite popular for orange harvesting. It is preferred to visit during the harvesting period between December to February when the tree bears sweet fruits, and the orchards are so inviting after a rainy season.

4. TINGLING VIEWPOINT

For the beautiful scenic view of tea gardens and the hills of Darjeeling there is a place known as Tingling Viewpoint. The place offers some of the most serene look of the tea estates; you could also walk around the Tingling Tea Garden to see tea leaves picking.

5. PASHUPATI MARKET

Pashupati Market is centrally located near the Nepalese border and is well known for shopping, especially imported commodities, and electronic items. Even though the market is in Nepal it is very much nearer to Mirik. You will need your passport or Identification to enter the market, as this market is on the international border.
