The car of WB is not permitted to go beyond Deorali in Sikkim. So, the cars from WB will drop you at Deorali Stand and from there you must catch local cab to Hotel or M. G. Marg. The journey from NJP / Siliguri to Deorali is around 3.5 to 4 hours with a nashta break in between. Have your breakfast / tiffin over there with Tea or Coffee.

Hire a Reliable Vehicle: The rugged roads of North Sikkim demand an experienced driver and a sturdy vehicle, typically a 4×4 or SUV.


1. Gurudongmar Lake:

This high-altitude wonder sits at 17,800 ft making it one of the world’s highest lakes. Its blue-green waters and snow-topped mountains around it create an otherworldly scene.

2. Yumthang Valley:

Day 1: Arrival at Gangtok

  • Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 2: Gangtok to Lachen 107 km; (6 to 7 hours’ drive)

  • Embark on the drive to Lachen, a beautifully situated small town in North Sikkim.
  • Visit the stops like Seven Sister Waterfalls and Singhik Viewpoint.
  • Arrive in Lachen by evening and check into the hotel; then enjoy the complete quiet.

Day 3: Lachen-Gurudongmar Lake-Lachung

  • Early morning departure for Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world, at a height of 17,800 ft.
  • Gaze at the lake’s turquoise-blue waters and snow-capped peaks around it.
  • Return to Lachen for lunch and after have the next destination to Lachung, yet another beautiful village.
  • Overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 4: From Lachung to Yumthang Valley and Zero Point.

  • Drive to Yumthang Valley popularly known as the Valley of Flowers.Explore whatever cheerful flora or white landscapes it may house depending on the season.
  • Optional: Extend journey to Zero Point (15,300 ft) for a breathtaking scenic view of snow-capped mountains during the return trip.
  • Get back to Lachung and overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 5: Lachung to Gangtok

  • Commence your return journey to Gangtok, undertaking several stoppages at Chungthang and other attractions on the way.
  • Finally, spend time in Gangtok pondering the beautiful memories created on the North Sikkim trip.

  • Pack Well: Bring warm clothes, since it can get cold in North Sikkim when you go up high.

  • Connectivity: Airtel, Vodafone etc. works great throughout Lachen and Lachung now. You can even access 4G Data. There is no coverage at Gurudongmar, Yumthang and Zero Point though.
