Gorumara (Lataguri) 2 Nights

Day 1:  Arrival in Lataguri (Gorumara)

Gorumara is one of the major and most popular tourist-spot in Dooars. Lataguri is the gateway into Gorumara National Park, which is famous for the elephant and bison population. The river Jaldhaka and Murti flowing through this forest gives a mix of grassland and tall tree forestation at the same time. There is regular Jeep Safari available and operated by national park authorities. To visit Gorumara National Park, you must stay either in Lataguri or in Murti; you will find several renowned resorts located in these two locations.

Morning: Reach Bagdogra airport by flight or Mal Junction railway station by train. Malbazar/New Mal Junction is the nearest Railway Station in Dooars where some of the trains originating from Kolkata stops. If you cannot find a train heading to Mal Junction, you can opt for NJP (New Jalpaiguri) Station instead. From there, you can easily hire a taxi to reach Lataguri. Those who do not have prior bookings for a car, there are several taxi services available at the airport as well as the railway stations. From there you can go to Lataguri through Gajoldoba route. Afternoon: After finishing your lunch, head out for a jungle safari in Gorumara National Park. You can take Gorumara Forest jeep safari in the afternoon and come face-to-face with animals such elephants, Bisons, leopards, deer, and peacock. Day 3: Travel to Jaldapara and Overnight Stay

Jaldapara National Park sits at the base of the Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar district of Northern West Bengal next to the Torsa River. The park boasts a rich mix of plants and animals in its deciduous forest, grasslands, and riverbanks. Tall grass stretches out in a patchwork of woods, meadows, year-round streams, and sandy shores marking the edges of the Jaldapara forests. The Torsa River runs through this wildlife haven, which covers 141 sq. km. The Malangi River also flows nearby from east to west creating vast grasslands that serve as the last home to many mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds.

This park has the second-largest rhino population in India just behind Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Other animals in the park include Indian Leopard, Indian elephants, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild boars, and gaur. Jaldapara is a paradise for bird watchers. It’s one of the few spots in India where people can spot the Bengal florican. Other birds you might see include the crested eagle, Pallas’s fish eagle, shikra, Finn’s weaver, jungle fowl, peafowl (peacock), partridge, and lesser pied hornbill. The park is also home to pythons, monitor lizards, kraits, cobras, geckos, and about eight types of freshwater turtles.

Morning: After breakfast check out from Lataguri resort and travel to Jaldapara, the most captivating destinations for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. It will take approx. 2 hours to reach there. Jaldapara has numerous homestays and resorts; so, check into the one you have booked.

Afternoon: Freshen up and have lunch at the resort. Then start your local sightseeing for the day. Today you can take a car ride and visit the Totopara and Khayer Bari.

Totopara: Just 30 km away from Jaldapara lies this beautiful village by the Torsha River, just adjacent to the border of Bhutan. This is the only place that forms the settlement of the Toto tribe which is an ancient tribal community found in the Dooars region. A trip to Totopara helps in understanding the distinctive tradition and way of living of this ethnic group. 

Khayerbari: South – Khayerbari located at 15 km from Jaldapara is famous for its animal rescue and rehabilitation center in the Dooars region. Visitors can be happy for a walk of 200 meters from the parking lot to the entrance where amazing animals such as the Royal Bengal Tiger and leopards can be seen in their natural environment. The center also provides opportunities of boating hence it is also a great place for nature and animal lovers.

Evening: On the way back to your hotel, stop at Jaldapara National Park safari booking counter just beside the West Bengal government’s Jaldapara tourist lodge. Here you can book both Jeep and Elephant safari for the next morning.

Dinner: Enjoy a hearty dinner before resting for the night.

Day 4: Explore Jaldapara National Park and Surrounding Areas

Morning: In the early morning, embark on a thrilling elephant safari or Jeep Safari through Jaldapara’s dense grasslands and enjoy the wildlife. After safari back to the hotel. After having your breakfast proceed for Phuntsoling sightseeing.

Phuntsoling, Bhutan: There is a crocodile park and the Kharbandi Gompa. This is the place from where you may get a view of entire eastern Dooars.

Have Lunch in between your sightseeing at any local restaurants of Jaldapara region.

Day 5: Travel to Jayanti and Overnight Stay

The winding Jayanti River is our next stop. Quickly freshened up and go for a trek to Buxa Fort, an important historical site once used as a detention centre during the British colonial era. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and hills.

Afternoon: After Lunch go for a jungle safari in the Buxa Tiger Reserve, known for its rich biodiversity and birdlife. Buxa tiger reserve, which was once known for dolomite mining, now enthrals tourists as one of the largest habitats for tigers. This area also hosts many known and unknown mammals and reptiles. If you’re fortunate, you might spot Leopards, Sambar, Asian Elephant, Gaur, Indian Civet, Pythons, and countless other animal species that call this national park home.
